Antigua calls to me across the sea
Where England's finest fight to clear their shame
A clash of nations witnessed on TV
Some fool is sure to say it's just a game
The scoring mounts and with each run a smile
That "fifty-one" is fading ball by ball
Since Collingwood is hanging round a while
The total that we reach will not be small
A declaration at a decent score
Before we get a gift from Captain Gayle
A ball he ought to smash for six or four
Should I feel bad to see a batsman fail?
I'll sleep a little better after that
A flannelled fool who's ruled by ball and bat
In a list
Please tell me honestly what you think, good or bad.

What's life if it's not cricket
Played to rather different rules
When the last ball hits your wicket
You must leave this stage of fools
But so long as you are batting
Keep your bat straight, eye on ball
And the little bumps you're patting
Do not change the pitch at all. -

Very true Jeff
But even when you're batting straight
you have no reason to wait,
go after the bowling , for
even if the last ball hits the wicket
you don't leave this stage of fools
coz if it's a no ball , your still in
this game of cricket

I don't like or enjoy sports, but I love this poem, and I can appreciate fans' love for their team! I wish I knew more of the terminology so I could enjoy it better!

I had to click on this one. I bet I'm the only person who gets the reference to the flannelled fool.
How much more civilised this particular match is without all those stupid referrals - a lesson there, I think!

-
Cricket, right?
I'm betting that this is a very good poem.

-
Tch! You and your cricket!
Sounds more interesting this way!

lol This aussie won't let you forget the 51 that easily but truly if you can't give the Windies a run for their money then those Ashes are looking mighty juicy for a rerun back to the Antipodes lol
