Dear Papa

Dear Papa,

We both know the time is drawing near-
Mee-ma and her angels
are almost here to pick you up.
Before they do, Papa,
I need to say goodbye.

At times like these eloquence
is not what matters most,
so on this page my heart pours out
my love and admiration
for my Papa.

I’ll miss sitting in your lap,
the warmest one around.
I’ll miss your pocket, full of peppermints,
and hearing your coos and whispers
in my little child-ears.

I’ll miss Christmas with my Papa,
and the visits throughout the year.
I’ll miss that turquoise house,
and you, Papa,
in that comfy chair.

No more Birthday cards
signed so sweet,
“Love your GP Fry.”
No more phone calls in the afternoon,
or seeing you at my door.

Papa, how I love you-
more than words could ever say.
I hope you know that when I wasn’t there,
I wished I was.
I hope you know you’re always in my thoughts,
and will never leave my heart.

As sad as I am to see you leave,
Papa, it’s that time.
Please go with Mee-ma and Mom-
know that I’ll be just fine.
I’ll miss you an awful lot,
and life will hurt with you away,
but, Papa, I know how happy you will be-
more than words can say.
