Promises Promises

Promised the world
Only to get an atlas
Was my ultimate fate, alas
As our future unfurled

Promised a dream
Only to get a nightmare
Full of despair
Irony in the extreme

Promised your hand
Only to get your hate
And an elusive soul mate
I just don’t understand

Excellent. So often the world promises us so much, only to let us down with second best. I like your rhyme scheme - hard to do in 40 words exactly. You'll get the world eventually, dinna fash.

    Co-judged!!!

    Excellent rhyme here.
Your words are effective and they show the way in which we can expect to get something and then just not find it the way you expected.

Best to you in the contest

I've been through this with so many stupid little girls.

    "Promised your hand
    Only to get your hate
    And an elusive soul mate
    I just don’t understand"

That how you know they aren't your soul mate...feelings like that.

I can totally relate to this one.
