"Where I'm From"
I am from lovebugs
from alligators and well water.
I am from the moss covered woods
that mom fought from eating our house.
(Her hands sticky,
smelling like pine needles.)
I am from Magic Crystals
the game I remember that made my world
into a woodland fairytale
I'm from Super Nintendo and ballet slippers,
from Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire.
I'm from the Cat Clubhouse, five best friends,
from "No boys allowed."
I'm from passed peppermints in a swaying,
robed choir loft and "Can I get an amen?"
I'm from Elaine and Harry's Branch,
court ordered visitation and vintage gloves.
From two grandfathers lost to cancer and the war
and still finding my grandmother's Cheeto crumbs
on smudged pages
of family albums,
growing musty like her favorite chair.
I am from these memories
A piece of me still lives in my only climbing tree,
And one day, God willing, I will grow tall enough, strong enough
And I will hold a new generation safe behind my leaves
What were your first thoughts?

Lovely. A really nice write, it's one of those that really makes you think about your own memories and reminisce. Although usually this style usually lulls me into a deep sleep i loved this! A really emotive part from the third stanza
"...still finding my grandmother's Cheeto crumbs
on smudged pages
of family albums,
growing musty like her favorite chair. "
A really strong image, and excellent write, am finally working on something new myself, pop over and have a look when it's up!

this is pretty amazing for its style, just not my thing?
but the images it evokes are pretty awesome

Haha, I know, right? Me either. I was actually required to do this for class and ended up really liking how it turned out. I'm a much bigger fan of free verse myself
Thank you!
