Swoll and hale
Laughing it's light
The moon romances the street
That sleeps beneath my feet
I try to breathe
Throat itching and swelling
Caught with desire
That hunger
That need
Those dreams of fire
Each time is worse
My heart pounding at my ribs
Begging to be free
As I stumble down the street
Hating the burning within me
Dogs that were barking
Smell me and speak no more
Whining
Tail between their legs
They slink away in the darkness
Back to the master's house
To scratch on the door
The television speaks through the window
Of Louisville gone
A terrorist attack
A natural disaster
My newfound shoes spit smoke with each step
I have to get into the mountains
I have to get out of town
They found me in Louisville
They found me
They will find me
A cat hisses from its place in a tree
As I stumble into the woods
Breath coming hard
As I try to contain this need within me
To explode
To release
To be
The coming conflagration
That began in a New York Subway station
Hunger
Desire
The world whispers
Cowering
Afraid
I am the fire
