My Darling, There'll Be No Goodbye!

The most cherished memories of love are preserved in our heart, as a series of precious moments in time, which may be recalled, in an instant, with the wink of an eye.  This, written to my wife as she laid in a coma after her heart attack, has remained un-revised.

A lifetime together is a series of memories.

Preserved are these memories, as moments in time.

These moments are treasures, joyful remembrances

Reflections relived, one at a time.

On life’s roller coaster we’ve ridden together

In concert together we’ve ridden as one.

For all of those time that we are apart

I remember your eyes and feel your heart.

In these split-second cherished reflections

Are moments untainted, unspoiled affections.

For all those moments with which we’re acquainted

Never spoil an instant, nor relive as it as tainted.

But rather my love, savor its essence

and recall each joy in its total quintessence.

For long after we've passed, God's word is most certain

Rest assured, My Darling, There'll Be No Good-bye!

  • Thank you so much for entering my contest. I enjoyed reading it very much and know that I took into consideration deeply to try and determine who made it on to the finalist round. I am not saying your poem is out of place or saying that it's bad, I thought maybe it would have fit better in another contest...

First, thank you for entering my contest. I’ve read all the entries before making any comments and can tell you that your poem, as well as the other entries, have given me a direction to write in, each has had it’s own flavor.

Your poem narrates the loss of a loved one well, inthis case your wife is in a comma and for that let me send my deepest sympathies. I to find myself writing about my mom alot like this, in a tone of missing.

Your poem bounded between couplet and quatrain, which is fine and the rhymes were decent. It centered a little around abstract feelings which can make it tough to sym/empathize with.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Jim

Thank You Jim for you assessment. It is as I wrote it. My wife was able to read it and when I suggest some changes, she ask me to leave it as first written. Howard

Touching, heartfelt, left a lump in my throat

Bravo! Simply beautiful, you can feel the love and tenderness within this..stunning...when you love someone as you have there are never any good-byes. I truly believe that...it's the priceless treasures they leave within us, that we can recall, that keep them with us...this was a pleasure to read.
