difficult fortune.

i aint got no more money, i spent it up today
& i ain't got no more weapons, i gave them all away
i been in the pantry drinking vinegar and rye
i been down in roanoke, and i don't know why
& i ain't got no more women, they all up and moved
i got no more problems, and nothing to lose

so why don't you give it to me?
why not give it for free

i ain't got no more poems, i wrote them years ago
i ain't got no more whispers, they had to be sold
i been in dupont drinking with the queer and holy saints
i been living in a fireplace and not paying any rent
& i ain't got no more hunger, i ate enough for a boy
& i ain't got no more morals, turning skulls into toys

so why don't you give it to me?
why not give it for free

i am walking backwards
to the sun that boils the sea
i am talking sideways
to the beauties i meet
and if i am a good man
then why do i lie through my teeth
and if i'm so deserving
then get down and lick my feet.
