and spoons clattering in a porcelain sink
a whisper lulled in the arms of Nox
but with child cunning, the clinking murmurs
rose from their crib and leaked over telephone wires
she remembered the calling
and how the Victorian with tulip shutters
and an Easter egg door
shriveled mutely from view
as if she were pulled by air balloon
bright with tangerine and azure
the trees she had climbed and fallen from
were dust bunnies under the couch
she traveled in the hat and jacket of a ring master
drifting in stop motion animation
torso pulled by see-through threads
snow drizzled her shoulders
like the empting of a hole puncher
the clouds, cherub-cheeked, iced her hair
her breath a pearly chimney
all the milky ways spilled
gushing a mist of silver and orchid
planets, spray painted tennis balls,
bounced through the black cat fur
popcorn stars sparked like hieroglyphics
and the soaring constellations
were big-breasted acrobats in sequin dresses,
their eyes like peppermint swirls
she sat on the chin of the paper moon,
duckling rain boots swinging over the edge
a ringlet of jeweled sand washed over her irises,
closing her lids in a plunge of sleep
Author notes
First off, I LOVE the song paper moon. it's so classy and smooth and never fails to make me smile.
anywho.
I wanted to do a fairytale type of thing with this piece. It took me forever to write because I kept tweaking little bits here and there and I'm not fully satisfyed with it but I think the piece is sooo much better from what it started out as.
Marcy [ea] sent me a picture of this girl sitting on a paper moon so I used that as my first inspiration. I guess the picture isn’t open to the public anymore so it can’t be seen anymore. Here's a link to it anyway: http://www.flickr.com/photos/themysterythatneverwas/3177414065/in/pool-854838@N24
I received my other bit of inspiration last friday when Coraline came out and I went to go see it. It was marvelous, absolutely beautiful, and breathtaking. Go see this movie if it’s possible! Also, it was in 3D which made it really fun! I often say this when I watch either Burton or Selick [he directed Coraline] movies that I want to live in those worlds and this movie was no exception.
oh I want to name my first born girl Isabelle Marie and I'll gut open anyone who steals that name from me! kisses!

stunning my love, your work always makes me wish I could get the fuck on and write! I especially loved:
she remembered the calling
and how the Victorian with tulip shutters
and an Easter egg door
shriveled mutely from view
as if she were pulled by air balloon
bright with tangerine and azure
easter egg door is just beautiful, you deserved this trophy. and a giant golden toblerone.

LOL I wanted to go see that movie but I had my wisdom teeth removied yesterday and I'm all hopped up on painkillers now (if you know the right way to mix vicodin and tequila everything just makes you happy
)
You should totally be like a multi famous writer or a movie director because really I think you could be a female Tim Burton with your gorgeous mind..
I love this poem and how surreal it seemed. It was a think of beauty woven together with pieces of the worlds we escape to.
You did amazing love but then again its no suprise

I loooooooooooooove you

My goodness, this is just earth-shatteringly wonderful. I hardly know what to say except I am so upset about the photo being taken "off the market" so to speak because I definitely want to use this in the collection I have decided to put out. Can you look through the flickr pool of paper moons and see if any others resonate and if so, I will try to get permission to use it with this. As it is, I cannot even contact this person who has this contemporary paper moon posted - what a shame! It was so wonderful!
But your poem is a thousand times more wonderful. Look through the collection and especially at any by Stevechasmar, Hepped-up on goofballs, and ephermerally yours and tell me if there are others that may inspire you for this series. I have permission to use those.

I'll be sure to look at them some time this week! I'd love to write more about the paper moons, and the Isabelle Marie character, I could start a whole story thing with her!
thanks for the silver!
