Farmer Joe (7 trips )

Well from my calculations ,old farmer Joe will have to make  7 trips to get his chicken, fox and grain back to the farm.

first of he makes one trip to get to town and buy his stuff.

after he's got every thing (chick.,fox, grain )he puts them down at the TOWN side of the river.

he makes his first trip ,taking the chicken with him back to the farm, leaving behind the fox and the grain.

FARM \\---------------------(chic)----------------------  TOWN
                                                            (fox & grain)

he then leaves the chicken at the farm and travels alone back to the town where the fox and grain are.

FARM  -----------------------------------------------//  TOWN
(chic)                                                      (fox & grain)

he then takes the fox and travels back to the farm leaving the grain alone .

FARM  \\-----------------(fox)-------------------------  TOWN
(chic)                                                      (grain)

he's now at the farm, he leaves the fox at the farm alone and takes the chicken with him, as he travels back to the town.

FARM  ---------------------(chic)----------------------// TOWN
(fox )                                                      (grain)

he now, puts the chicken down ,in the town, and takes up the grain, and travels back to the farm.

FARM \\-------------------(grain)-----------------------  TOWN
(Fox,)                                                      (chic)

now ,he's at the farm with the fox and the grain.
he leaves  both of them there and travels back to the town, alone ,to get the chicken.

FARM  -----------------------------------------------//  TOWN
(fox,grain)                                                  (chic)

he now collects his chicken and head back to his farm, where he meets with his fox and bag of grain ...

FARM \\-------------------(chic)------------------------- TOWN
(fox,grain)

And that’s how farmer Joe spent his Saturday after noon!!

Author notes

NB: the direction of the slash shows the direction farmer Joe and is travelling

2) and item in brackets on the river shows which item the farmer if travelling with

3)when i say TOWN AND FARM, i mean the river bank on either side ,not the actuall farm and town ,it just makes it easier to explain in the drawing !!!

You have the correct number of trips.
Your explanation had lots of effort,
it was still a little bit confusing,
    sometimes simple is better.
but because you put more EFFORT into your explanation with the diagram, I am giving you...

    hehehe,

he doesn't have to keep going all the way back to town, just to the river.
feel free to edit till closing,
    and thanks for entering.
I loved how you set up the explanation.
