Words on a 35th Valentine Card

Missing image
On that first Valentine
"Be Mine" was pretty much
a forlorn, hollow hope
for a dopy 18-year-old
bowled over so completely
with the sweetness and the
beauty that is you

I tried to guard my pride
providing for that day
When you would say "let's talk"...
That walk with leaden foot
When you would gently put my
dreams into the seams of yesterday.
That day that never came.

Today I woke and watched you sleep,
tried to keep my breathing still,
my heart filled with the years of joy
since first this boy declared his love
in words above a Hallmark heart -
to start this everlasting flame,
with my sweet Valentine

such a beautiful poem. i hope to someday be able to say the same thing that you are; hopefully my relationship now will last that long. that would enable me to die happily.

on like 14, shouldn't it read "The day that never came" rather than "That day that never came"?

    keep up the great work!

Oh my, there cannot be a woman who walks this earth who would not wish to receive such a tender and true Valentine after 35 years of living and loving in blessed togetherness. Beautiful, bountiful, endearingly heartwarming.
