Perplexed on Christmas morning
when I pulled from my stocking...
a toy ice cream cone?
I pushed the lever on one side
"poof"
the pink foam ice cream shot off the cone.
A piece of paper flew,
landing on carpeted floor.
"Aren't you curious about that note?"
my hubby inquired.
Scrawled on torn paper in familiar script,
a desperate plea;
"Help, get me out of this basket!"
Perplexed, I searched
large baskets and small,
then spied a brown furry arm
peeking out of a wicker picnic basket
on a wall across the hall.
"There!"
I gestured with triumphant glee.
Bill stretched a broom across the sill,
scooped up the basket by it's handle
and rescued ... Feelix.
I cuddled my soft Christmas bear.

Author notes
A true story. This happened early in our marriage, about 20 years ago.
I had fun with that puppet with my son Tim, who was born a few years later.
