Straight Shooting

You first found my footprints
when I skulked through the halls of your unconscious.
Your balmy chords lifted my wafting arias.

You poured, unknowing, 'round the rainfall that chilled your
imperial eyes,
and heated the hope I found when you
swathed my limbs and wishes.

We kissed among the concrete. We crawled
through tunnels dense with inebriated youths
when you held me past the morn of those
first hellos
that echoed through the Mississippi steam.
