Inifinity AD, circa 1972.
Pragmatic shiny black FBI shoes,
trot down the street hearing the news that we are free to express,
whatever we are and what we wish to be.
Sad but true;
a few would ruin it completely,
the tabloids would twist it,
idiots true to form would miss the point completely,
cameras focus on them harshly,
and say with an iota of disblief under self-imposed duress:
"This my friends is the coming renaissance."
"Hmph." The stolid citizens would repeat.
Every time they saw a peace sign.
"Fucking age of Aquarius, ey?"
"Yeah brother."
"You callin' me a black dude?"
"No. But it wouldn't be an insult. I'm talking about the hippies, ey."
"Yeah...I hate them too."
Don't listen to anyone trying to sell or barter love.
Don't listen to anyone trying to sell or barter hate.
These things are free to anyone.
Be yourself as completely as possible. That's the best you can do.
Fads and fashion are the illusion of truth,
and ultimately lose their kitch value very quickly.
Uniquely who you are,
things you do when people call you weirdo...
sometimes have real value.
You've just got to get this one fact:
They've got nothing on you.

I think I have read the turning point in my life. Well done. I think you've been reading my mind lately.

Thanks for points and for holding the contest. Too bad there weren't more entries.

Enjoyed this mightily! The '70s flower children, long hair on men. Construction men used to make fun of the hippies; now some of those hippies are doing construction, long hair and all. We are what we are. Well-done!

I think it's probably healthy to break the mold and reinvent yourself ever so often. Life changes you, and evolving and adapting is part of the process. I've been through hood, beatnik, gen-x grunge, yuppie. I'll tell you, the grunge yuppie is a horrifying gestalt to experience. Yet. Here I am. Thank you for reading and commenting.
