The Me Inside

The Me inside is charming
without doing any harming
to anyone or thing.

Wanting to be loved
and love in return,
the elusive goal I seek
and God is not letting me peek.

I know I can be so much more,
so why am I such a bore?
Why do I have to hide
the real "ME" inside?

Author notes

My favorite poet is Emily Dickenson. She is the first one I thought of. I like her because she is not afraid to be herself and she taugh me poetry doesn't have to be perfect.

it sucks that we feel like we have to hide who we really are from people. afraid of what they might think or afraid of being made fun of because they might not like a certain thing about us. we are each special in our own ways. this piece shows the inner pain and trials we go through. your poem shows us to not be so afraid because the real person that we are inside is beautiful and loving.

    i quote a line from Shakespeare's HAMLET:
"to thine own self be true"

be true to yourself. your poem here is honest and true. you are true to yourself. you must continue to do that. a great write and wonderful work! keep on writing, my dear. you are doing a great job!

This is a good poem, I hope that it is more like a battle cry than a song of defeat though Emily is a great poet, and it is no surprise that she inspires a lot of people - thank you for entering!

Very interesting write. Your messages about hiding yourself ring very true. However perhaps you could make your message more subtle - make the reader think more about its meaning instead of thrusting it out. Anyways, great write and best of luck in your writing future!

This whole poem rings true on a deep level to me. I've hidden away so many parts of myself, it's hard to really open myself up to the world.

Thank you for sharing this. I hope some more people read this. Wow.

    Bandits Reading List

Those last two lines rang very true to me, I often feel that I hide the real me inside of myself. I try to release it through my poetry and art, but I feel like I can never get it out. I too wrote my poem for this contest about Emily Dickinson, because she was so unique and wrote only for herself. I love how she inspired this write, I can feel her in your words.

    Well penned,
    ~lost

    Outstanding

In a world that judges by appearances this is an important message - it is who we are inside that matters. I hope you find the love you seek. I haven't read much Emily Dickinson but will check her out on old poetry. Best of luck in the contest.

Great write tells me that it's alright to be me. I think we need to be reminded of that. I enjoyed this.
