Someone left their heart on the floor
Funny, for all the stock we put in love
No one has come to claim it
Carts just roll over it, unfazed
People step on it
And employess simply kick it out of the way
A little purple heart is on the floor
And people wonder
Why the world is so troubled
People will scavenge for a 5 dollar bill
Not stopping til they find it
But I have heard no intercom call
Seen no wild eyes searching the floor
No one misses their heart
It's a spreading disease
I'm surprised it's the first one I've seen
It's not broken
Just Forgotten
Maybe it slipped out of their chest
When they bent over
To pick up that five dollar bill
This heart will not be wasted
Whatever loving it has left
I have now, in my purse
Just waiting
If I ever find that person
Or any person, to whom it may belong
I'll try to give it back
Chances are the spot will be filled
With a bitter green paper heart
And I'll just keep on loving
Twice as much
