Chariots of Gluttony

Carts roll by on squeaky, teetering wheels
Chariots of gluttony

The ruler, hands firmly grasping the handle
Indulges in the screaming child
The wayward whim
And the "Maybe I'll use this someday"

The pompous cart kings stroll down the aisles
Waiting for the shelves to bow like royal subjects
Dropping their gifts in the chariot of gluttony
Until it is filled to the brim
With the vital, the vain, and the useless

We are all kings and Queens in our own right
But today, I am simply innocent eyes

Here, quietly on this bench
I've witnessed fantasy and tragedy

Queens of old, grabbing hair dye off the shelf
To bring young luster back to their locks

The princes steal a glance at the great trojans
While unnoticed right beside
A princess, all most in a fury
(hoping to be invisible)
Quickly swipes a pregnancy test
Where is her prince with the great trojans now?

Kings of men, rub the shining to of aging heads
While hiding the rogaine
Under the beer, the shirt, or anything

The truths of human nature
Tucked into the flaws of the anonymous

The safety of tall aisles
Duck behind
Duck around
Pick the cute cashier
That we don't know
And will never see again

Your royalty extends no farther
Than your chariot of gluttony
With which you feed your vanity
While your humble secrets lay open and exposed

It's a good thing everyone is consumed
In their own secrets, their own vanity
Their own kingdom

Are you staring?

    WoW!

So, many times I sat in Wal-mart while I was working thinking that half the things these people buy is just useless. I love the way you pointed out the flaws of mankind with the simplest of gestures(old man buying rogaine). I think it shows how superficial the world is today. Cudos!

as a publix man I truely appreciate this ... but the way u twist and ordinary occurance into a deep sociological meaning is great!
