And as the majesty of open space
breaks upon my chest,
my eyes dive into the sea.
It has no end, no sound or name or
hope and I wish
that I could be lost.
Those twilight clouds are charcoal
smudges, and I wish their yawning breaths would
carry me away (I have no weight);
roll me along to the horizon, and the next,
and the next.
The crescendo of the silent sea
beckons me; there are whispers on the wind.
Closer to home, the ground is coated in shattered rain.
It’s cold out there and all I see
are reflections of sirens and streetlights.
Someone is lost out there.
