Pastorale

Each blessed day, the little lambs play
All in a ring, as sweet birds sing,
Tiny young things, dancing in rings,
Make the heart glad, merry and mad
Out on the grass, with shepherd- lass
Running around to the pipe's sound
Even the sun joins in the fun
Melting Spring snow with gleeful glow.
Under the trees, blessed by the breeze,
Their mothers wait, there by the gate
Thick woolly coats, scarves round their throats
On the sweet earth, where they gave birth
Newly arriving, living and thriving
Isn't it choice? Each lambkin's voice
Thrills through the air, without a care
Such a safe scene, out on the green
Goodness abounds in such sweet sounds.
Over the sky, white clouds go by
Oh, but I love our God above!
Didn't he give sweet life to live,
Fine things to eat, land 'neath our feet?
Open your heart, make a fresh start
Rivers run by, butterflies fly
Youth has its day, 'tis the world's way
Often we doubt, till lambs leap out
Until the dusk, gamb' ling about!

  • I just re-read this as a penance.

If I did see the acrostic message which is well hidden and not obvious, I would say this is a poem with a delightful woods-outdoors air, a natural scene that seems so serene. Then the acrostic message, which seems more a sumbliminal message just blows me away!

A wonderful job here. Thanks for entering it in this contest!

Yes let the little lambs play, for after all, the meat of the young sheep was Jesus' favourite (we have all heard of the Lamb of God, have we not?). Mutton is not so much a favourite of mine - the phrase mutton dressed up as lamb springs to mind, as who wants old meat tarted up?

Funny acrostic! Love the internal rhyme!

Oh! How clever and so absolutely delightful a write!

I refrained from unraveling the acrostic beforehand, and I am glad I did not, for I was spun into a lovely merry-go-round of sound and of joyous life! Thank you for first feeding my soul before letting the focus fall on the mutton on my plate.

Love to you, Wizard of Words.

Sorry. But it's great in casseroles and curries.
