“Two roads diverged in a yellow wood.”
I hear the words of Frost’s mournful voice.
I think of my life, both the bad and the good,
and how I’m now faced with a similar choice.
We’ve lost our way since we first set out.
The shared dreams we had weren’t solid – just foam.
We wander a forest overgrown with our doubt
and realize that there’s no way back home.
Do I continue along the well trodden path
and follow the footsteps of many before?
Do I stay with someone who’s filled with wrath
and honor the vows that now taste of rancor?
Or do I choose the path “less traveled by”
and pray that it leads from darkness to light.
I stare at the choices and, lost in a sigh,
I fail to choose – a choice in its own right.

Sometimes we forget that not making a choice is choosing.
Prompt:
“When he traces
the line of my life,
he doesn’t realize

he has actually wandered.”
