What of life
could four walls speak to me?
Yet life was in every fibre of this room
Objects chosen in care and love
had dulled over the years
into numbed pain and subjection
but now are crowned anew in love
and will be sadly missed on the morrow
The one ray of sunlight
allowed into my world
was shaded with the yellowing curtains of time
and my horizons dimmed for want of it's view
Till I reached out for life
and took my health in loves hands
to build me anew
Fear swept through me
Fear of known and unknown
all held in check by your kiss
Even my very breath obeyed your eyes
In fear and joy I leave this house
Tangled memories follow like confetti
What of my family?
What of father?
Shh! Don't let thoughts halt me
I must abandon all
but the vision of your face
the warmth of your hand
I shall not be safe 'till I am in your arms
Fleeing from my own shadow
and a taller darker one
Oh that his heart could understand mine!
Sad fool he prays for me
when I like a caterpillar
turn butterfly in the new air
Just begining on life's journey
and saying farewell
to a dying woman

The title made me click ...(my favorite poetess' name)
Beautifully written....so lovely
Was it inspired by one of her poems, or a dedication to her?
Whichever the case, excellent poem...

Hi
The poem was written after watching a film about her life. Yes, it is dedicated to her, she was a very remarkable lady. I'm so glad she is your favourite as she is one of mine too. Thank you for your lovely comments.

A most excellent poem here! I'm not up on her life, though I have long loved her most famous sonnet, "How do I love thee?" very fine, indeed!
