Agnostic or not, a note from a Friend

Temptations are never the sin
They are the marketing at the door,
your desire is what brings you in.

No matter how you seek to hide
become numb all over again
God is watching and it is you who decides.

We have no faith in ours alone.
We know that folly always makes
its bed in another man’s home.

Busy as good little bees we know
far better what it is our neighbor needs.
Since we have no control

we send almighty God out on patrol.
Disappointed constantly by his unwillingness
to strike them down, we help out when we can.

Before the pope put on his crown
‘ere the mighty told God who to chase
out of town, He had set the course.

Now like a viewer of his own invention,
He sits in divine respose, tinkers now and then
but mostly just watches how it all plays out.

You know the rules, what goes out comes back,
the more you denigrate the less others care
about your fate. So be steamed and sore

that God don’t seem to care no  more.
Better than having to see that the only ones
to blame are you and me.

Author notes

Most of what life "is" ends up in a story we tell ourselves. God or not man has invented religion to protect himself from having to go out and meet this Being.
Politics, government, schools start off as great ideas and in the end to frequently become temples for shedding our responsiblity to do anything more than pay taxes and lip service. I don't have answers. I also don't look for them to show up on another person's doorstep.

In a list

Please tell me what you think, what it makes you feel, how you are moved.

Wonderful compliment. Spirituality, belief in a higher power does not deprive us of our responsibilty for our behavior.

You repeat most of my poem back at me. I already know what the poem says, I wrote it. Cheap way to get points. Can't even leave applause. Pah!

how many times we lose something
as i was cleaning my mom's room
    there it was
20 bucks, cold cash under her dresser
i gave it to the lawyer

Seek and ye shall find. More often than not we get what we need as often as not. we complain because our want is bigger than any meal we could eat.

    Superb Plus +

I liked the fine way in which you expressed your thoughts. My spiritual beliefs somewhat agree with what you said. For me, God is un-conditional, and non-judgemental love. Also, I, and I alone, am responsible for the expreiences, and individuals whom I attract into my life. There are no coincidences, at least in my belief system. Once again, very well written.

Pretty much agree with you. A spiritual life is expressed in the living. The rest is a road show for people who cannot handle participating in reality.

thanks. I am prone to be pointed. I guess I have always felt that having a position regardless of how attached to it you are is better than being totally adrift. Glad you enjoyed. Thanks.

    nice piece.

Now like a viewer of his own invention,
He sits in divine respose, tinkers now and then
but mostly just watches how it all plays out.

this part reached out to me. views along this line of thought has led me to seek other avenues along life's road.

that God don’t seem to care no more.
Better than having to see that the only ones
to blame are you and me.

    and a beautiful ending.
    Thank you for this piece.

God did not say he was responsible for our actions. He said we are responsible. We are responsible for how we celebrate and give thanks and tend what is given us. He does not deprive us of the lessons we must learn through experience. We do.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Thanks for letting me know this touched you.

      Peace and Light,

If I didn't have faith to know that god is somewhere listening to me, I'd have gone mad along time ago. I must admit to always thinking he's probably busy with bigger things but in the back of my mind I know we are all his little problems lol and he takes time out to hear us. Life never seems as empty knowing that his ear is there when you need it. C

It is a great deal of love to let you live your life and having you feel the presence of God, but to never feel like anyone is controling your life.

To be loved and allowed freedom to make our own path and decision, to feel the love and prescence and know it is given without price, put God already far beyond the reach of most of mankind.

That you doubt God could control you shows the size of your ego But, as I say in the poem, most people for all their alliegence and awe think god is their private judge and jury along with an avenging angel or two to sic upon other people.

I end with what I always say about the holy: "God save me from those who would save me."

No, I am a Friend. A member of the Society of Friends, i.e. Quakers. This is my cynical side talking tongue in cheek. God will provide, perhaps, but you are still responsible for your pluses and minuses and all your actions as life lands in your lap.

This is the more cynical side of my humor. We are responsible for how we act and respond to what is put in front of us. Thanks for sharing how you enjoyed these simple words I employed.

Prayers do nothing unless ACTION is applied...

He who is truly religious has no need to brag of it, for ALL will
be seen within his daily actions...

Thanks for sharing your pleasure. I am a Quaker, that is what the Friend is about. The rest of this is sort of tongue in cheek and I am glad the thought that nothing deprives you of responsibilty for your own actions.
