If I Were A Bohemian (Philosopher)

I need my reality,
before I can find my morality.
I’ve forsaken my insanity
to present this picture of purity.
***

Poetry is an outlet for expression,
or so they say, a little room for exploration.
I wield my words like a double-edged sword
acting intellectual without coming across like a fraud.

I live in valleys of scorching pain,
churning out pellets of hope not in vain.
I think I can affect someone, somehow,
maybe not in terms of priceless stars and useful cows.

In my way, in your eyes,
I live and breathe whilst someone else dies.
Words are puzzles pieced together,
and we will be together forever.

I travelled to the end of the rainbow
and back where all my creative juices could flow.
I’m living differently from you
but you’re no better than me; we’re all just fools.

This is the beginning of the end,
the part where I relinquish all my friends.
I’ll see you in my dreams,
sitting atop my little mountain, lonely as it seems.

I’ll pray to the heavens
and worship all the priests in their brethren.
No, no, I’ll create my own religion,
living on bliss and setting on my little life’s mission.

I’ll cut off all my hair
(that’s the only part of me I’ll ever cut),
and I’ll live in a land with only clean air
(environmental degradation condemns our salvation).
I’ll fill my diaries with pages of wit and metaphors,
and I believe that one day, I’ll become a great philosopher.

#3.

Hi iamthebeatles,

Thanks so much for your prompt- "bohemian".

I've decided to use this definition of it for my poem (found it on http://dictionary.reference.com/)- bohemian: a person, as an artist or writer, who lives and acts free of regard for conventional rules and practices.

I was very excited upon getting the prompt, and tried to incorporate my "double lives" as a Literature and Philosophy student into this poem. I want to be an artist (a bohemian? That just sounds so cool ), and I'd love to be a philosopher as well (someday maybe).

Hope you like it!

    Love the pic!

Someone said, "To be original be yourself." What you wrote reminded me of something I do whilst trying to erase my carbon footprint. I gather up items persons had planned on throwing away... often new with tags on still. Then, I donate. Also, when I see persons have set out items that could have been recycled or donated for monthly large quantity curb side pick up by City. With my trusty sword "magic marker" I jot my Recycle Momma of Dallas Motto...

    IMPROVE EARTH & CHILDREN'S FATE
    CONSERVE, RECYCLE & DONATE...

On one of my treasure hunt, recycling adventures a young teen shook my hand and said, "Thank you for caring about my generation."

I began my adventures as Recycle Momma of Dallas when Radio Shack told me I could find a mailing box set curb side probably as they break all their boxes down. Not only did I find boxes I found left overs from garage sales etc. I just trot up to door to see if okay to take. Also, sometimes when a garage sale is closing down persons offer to me FREE round abouts 3 pm(ish). If I see persons boxing up left overs I ask if they are setting curb side for City Pick up and if they say, "Yes." I ask if I can have to recycle instead. Some I keep yet over 95%+ I donate. I sell the books and historical artifacts i find yet give away most of what I find.

Oh well, LOLz, you can see I'm passionate about you, me, WE recycling since life is a team effort "one for all and all for one" in its truest sense. SEA

    • Haha thanks

I can see you're indeed a passionate Earth Warrior... trying to do your part in making this world a (much) better place. I really admire people like you.

You're such an inspiration! Haha thanks again

I enjoyed this a lot it did give be that boho feel to it. It has this infectious rhythm that i real admire. i just love the spark to our poetry it has shine all of it's own. I wasn't sure what your poetry was going to sound like but this is one of my favs. "I’ll cut off all my hair
(that’s the only part of me I’ll ever cut),
and I’ll live in a land with only clean air
    (environmental degradation condemns our salvation).
I’ll fill my diaries with pages of wit and metaphors,
and I believe that one day, I’ll become a great philosopher." I just loooove that. I think that it is really that mind fram of a bohemian that this stanza embodies. It is filled with rebellion and the attitude like," you can't crush my dreams you imperialist swine." I love it, please keep writting i think you are amazing and I will definatly have to read more of your pieces....much <3 scars.

  • I'd have to say that I share similar visions. This is a great poem with a random and yet flowing assortment of various ideas of the world, oneself, and the various corelations.
Reminds me of a song I was listening to earlier this morning, Same Direction by Hoobastank. "Why does there only have to be one philosophy." That is the beauty of philosophy and open mindedness, it does not limit, it does not condemn, it tries out an idea in faith and makes modifications as it goes along. I don't want to seem like I'm chastizing religion in the following statemen2, but religions biggest problem is that it does not allow itself to expand and/or modify. People are so scarred of an uncertain future that they must have a backboard that "comes from the origins of man" to rely on and to believe in.
It's all the same, we can point the finger all we want. The only thing that makes us different is our ability to have our individual minds and no 2 people have grown up with the same cultural experiences and encounters. Hence the diversity of the human race.
I could go on and on for pages, but I won' get to the point of monotony.
I've had you in my favorites since my contest in December and I've been so busy with college this semester and now that things are coming to a close, I have more time to read poetry. I'm glad I stopped by. This poem is full of deep thoughts and profundity. One of the best poems I've read in a while. I love a poem that can really delve deep into the mind.
    Great work.

  • PS I am getting a little Beatles from this, but then again I get a little bit of Beatles in everything. The mountain and fool part made me think of "The fool on the Hill". Thanks for the trip!

  • this is wonderful. I love this. You have really captured the voice of a bohemian with this lovely poetic piece.

    "I’m living differently from you
but you’re no better than me; we’re all just fools"

That captures their views so well. bravo! I believe your poem has inspired the little bohemian inside of me, and of anyone else who reads this.

    i loved it!
it reminded me of Jason Mraz sort of, but maybe a little more Rent-esk, either way i want to sing it.

    "Words are puzzles pieced together,
and we will be together forever." especially this part stuck
