I can remember laying you down,
In your soft crib with your fluffy blankets,
With your favorite Tigger imprints on the side . . .
I don't the the doorway can hold the weight of my heart
As I lean against it,
Watching,
Observing,
Learning
From you.
Your tiny hands clenched in beautiful little fists . . . .
Your mouth open slightly to ease your breathing . . .
And standing here
Gazing at your purity,
I make a premonition.
I'll take your hand
And help you take those first steps . . .
And when you fall down,
You'll get right back up.
You'll take that first bike ride,
You won't even notice that I've let go . . .
Until you're too far for me to catch you again . . .
But you'll be okay.
You'll keep right on pedaling.
And I'll be so proud . . .
Until then, you're safe in your crib,
And in my arms.
Oh Sarah, You are my life,
You are my heart.
You sneeze softly and gently paw at the air.
I can remember wanting to take your hand,
Holding on fast.
But I just stand there,
Watching,
Observing,
Learning
From you.
