Heart of My Heart

Our Ancestors taught us to only take

what we needed to survive.

But first we prayed to Spirit

to honor those that gave their lives.

We thanked them afterwards

with gifts offered in love.

Food and shelter provided by sacrifice

and blessed from above.

Now God's creatures are slain in numbers

for selfishness and greed.

Blood flowing rampant as knives

slash with speed.

Murdered by those with no conscience

or any regret.

But these are only animals, not worth

the respect.

Blood pouring, eyes pleading in pain,

my heart breaking in grief.

Praying that someone will soon stop

this slaughtering, again and again.

  • Humanity lost

It breaks my heart the cruelty we as humans place on all other animals of this world . We could learn much from the animals and how they upon this world lives together in harmony yet humanity has become lost for through thought we often make the harshest mistakes in life . We have the capability to think and reason yet it seems we the people of this world is refusing to do so . My heart breaks that a world could be so cruel yet cry freedom for themselves in the same breath .

  • Feeling expressed in this poem comes through to the reader. I agree. Modern, 'civilized' man, has no understanding of these things. We surely could learn by studying how the indians lived before being pushed out of their balanced world.

How very true. The cruelty which goes on in slaughterhouses all over the world, in meat factories, on intensive farms and (worst of all) in scientific research laboratories is disgraceful. But most of us are hypocrites: we eat meat and we take the pills manufactured by the pharmaceutical giants. But I shall applaud you for your sincerity. I hope you will read one of my poems as an experiment!

Let's all pray that the senseless killling of all animals, including the human animal, is reduced to what is needed for our survival. The indigenous peoples of many countries practiced this and the planet was healthy, may it be that way again. A beautiful poem, written with balance and style.

Oh yes I do pray our power, our united front and our combined energy moves the hearts and reason of the cou ntries who import these skins. If we can have importing banned then we will have made a mark. You know we actually can through the power we have inside. Namaste dear sister in spirit.
