Kitten Wings

~

There’s a point between kitten and cat,
where felines gain extra feelings;
a frenzied, witching-hour, nipp’d cat,
that bounces off floors, walls, and ceilings.

She appears possessed of a demon.
An upper case “M”, hair standing on end,
all Edvard Munch and silently scream’n -
then off to the races - warp ten; again!

Which room is she in? Where do I begin?
The drapes are climb’d, claw’d and pilled,
It’s the room where the lamp is left swing’n,
the pong is pinging, the candies are spilled.

So, what to do with this whirling dervish,
this banshee of all fluff and bluster?
Capture; but how? Well, don’t look now,
this Tasmanian now decides to purr!

A wonderful impression of a completely nipped feline! I love the vocabulary, particularly, as it's extremely colorful and apt. "Whirling dervish" .One of my favorite lines is "this banshee of all fluff and bluster". Another particularly amusing phrase is
    "the pong is pinging".

This is a delightful poem! My cat is a year old and we had his front paws de-clawed. That doesn't slow him down in the least though from ripping through the house and getting up to no good. This made me smile. Thank you.

What a wonderful little piece! I either love it and am delightfully amused or want to pull my hair out when cats act like this.

aww, this is sweet. My cat was a year and a half when we adopted her...not quite as rambunctious as a kitten but she definitely had her spurts.
Thanks for sending the link, and for visiting my page...appreciate it

TS Elliot would have approved I think. I like the energy of it. The rhyming actually adds to the piece.

I would have thought you were in the room with this fire ball! I have a friend who loves cats and has seven of them. She and her husband named the youngest one "Cool it!" because it's always bouncing off the walls and climbing curtains, or pant legs. Mischief, and then some!

The rhyme and choice of words is delightful!

You're welcome K. I was thinking you probably are familiar with these spastic episodes that kittens have where they just fly off the handle as if on speed. lol

I must admit that the title drew me to this poem. I had as much fun reading it as I think you had writing it. It's adorable and so true.

    Love,

      LOL Thank you Amera.
Could you answer a question for me though?
Do you think it is properly arranged, should the lines be shorter, and is this maybe a limerick? I originally had it arranged as a quatrain but that didn't seem right so I ran it all together. What do you think?

I'm somewhat allergic to cats but I do love them and talk to my customer's cats a lot. We seem to have a repore in no time after we first meet.
      Thanks marcy,

I love cats, and have several that are at different stages in life. You have evidently observed closely to write this one. The young ones are like mischievous elves, innocently wreaking havoc. There is nothing more cuddly than a kitten with a full tummy on your lap.

I love cats too. I like the way they pretend to ignore me when I walk into a room. What I do is ignore them too but talk to them a little in a high pitched voice and purr, then they'll eventually come around no matter how timid they are. Works everytime. They're a little like women. lol
      Thanks for stopping by Pat.

    FUNNY!!!!!!!

Paul this was soooo funny but true I am sure!!! I like cats when they are kittens and then when they are grown and content just to be fed and loved on ...don't care to much for the stages in between where they scratch and hiss...great job describing this time line in the life of a feline!!!~~~Toni~~~

I've had cats like this. They don't seem to need the catnip to behave like this, they just do it spontaneously. Thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed reading it.

A poem of frenzy and frustration.

I like it. The words have movement suiting to the cat. I like 'she appears to be possessed of a demon." Oops! My dog wants me...I can understand, dogs are male and less a puzzle.
