From The Journal of Murdoch Summersville

Febuary 7, 5:00am

"The sun is rising, the maid is missing,"
I said, hands folded behind my back.
Pacing, pacing, in the master study
"As soon as Harkett gets back
I'll send for everyone to assemble,"

"Yet not before twilight, if my hunch is right
we will not find the killer, before twilight"

"He alone had the speed, the wit, and the anger."
I said, pausing to pull a pipe out of my pocket,
as I stuffed it with tobacco and perpared to light it
"Of course, thats why the red silk scarf about the neck
he was strangled, as his life was being drawn away."

"The poison was just to give him the apearance
of being drunk, the knife wound was to draw
our atention away from the scarf.  The neck!"

I lit my pipe drawing in silky quantities of rich smoke
" A vampire has been among us and the feind left
enough blood in him, to pool about the floor.
But, I bet that is all the blood left,
the tell tale wounds about the neck
must have healed somehow."

"To know that Louie was his son, will devastate the family
to know that he is the killer, and a vampire...
They'll never believe it, I can't say that I believe it."

Drawing in more smoke, and letting it exhale slowly
"Damn it Harkett, man hurry up and get back
I need you, I feel I'm going mad."

Dang you do 'Sherlock Holmes' Very well. I can smell the pipe tabaco and you make me want to smooth away the worry lines on your characters forhead
Although I tend to stay with my suspect of the Burtler and his daughter, the vampire senerio is a wonderful slant to this mystery. Fantastic work here. Best wishes!

Vampires indeed! I see the doctor's ploy is gathering steam. He, himself, sowed this mythical seed in Beatrice's mind - and now her throwaway remark has been fastened onto... When we fear, why do we always turn to fantasy - and away from the facts? You, above all others here, should know better than this!

Now there's a lead. Of course we know I didn't do it--who in their right mind would hire a vampire to prance about and dust the silver? I'm just here to be cute.

By George!  You might just have something there!  Very inventive collective idea skills introduces into this fine piece. With all that mutilation involved in his demise, this very well could be the case.
Unless of course it's a deterring factor proposed and a tactic used in detective work meant to draw the criminal into a false sense of security.
