They Will Come For You (She's My Dorian Gray, I'm Her Edmund Fitzgerald)

For in this storm, we are changed into children
Moving in the water as if we were meant to
This is what we were made for, hands that hold hands
To discover what fastens us together, like string
You, my darling, are the painting and I am the fire
The blaze that burnt down the gallery that held you
-
And now, you've built this house around you
Trying to clutch at the ideas we had about home
Something normal and something blue, bruised and quiet
Would you be the ship that sank in the ocean?
Can you crash like so many planes already have?
-
I will find you and I will pull you from the water
With all the strength I've wasted on myself
You will be free from that well, that vast open mouth
Try not to shake.
-
Trust me now, if you've ever had faith in me before
I will not let these monsters take you into that night
Heaven would never forgive the tales I will tell
Of how I forged this darkness, to save you from hell.

Okay I'm gonna start this one off with how intrigued I am by your title. It's awesome. I really like it. Now that I've said that -- man, do I love this poem. On first glance I wasn't sure but by the end... great. I really like these lines
"You, my darling, are the painting and I am the fire
The blaze that burnt down the gallery that held you"
    and also this one:
"Something normal and something blue, bruised and quiet" -- the contrast is really striking. I also like how easily the emotions get through; I can really feel exactly what the speaker's done to the girl and all the regret he's feeling. Amazing. Great write. Good luck in the contest!
