Letter from Fredriksberg

Oh, my sweetest love, always on my mind
is my wanting for you and this yearning
when I marched to war and left you behind
I was certain I'd soon be returning
But months turned to years and still I am here
these fields  where I witnessed my youth disappear

When you saw me off you held in your tears
gave me a silk scarf a prayer book too
I posed a bold front suppressed all my fears
prayed that this bloody mess soon would be through
but here on these field so many men die
I cannot be brave, I cannot but cry

Forgive me beloved, for burdening you
with all my depressive anxieties
But, be brave and know that thinking of you
is all that it takes to bring my heart ease
and facing each day is made bearable
I love you darling with all of my soul.

    This was heart-wrenching, Rov,
You brought such depth of feelings to the surface and now I'm crying...
your sad poems always make me cry...but thats a good thing, it means you have such ability to bring your poems to life and touch the hearts of the readers.
This was like watching a war movie and SEEING the emotions come to life.
    BRAVO!

  • Oh my this is so heartbreaking and the emotion that you have managed to put in this is just amazing! There is a hollowness in this that echoes the futility of war.

    Exceptional

Some how I saw a soldier leaving wife and home to enter a civil war battle field. Of course, it could fit any war, such as Iraq; but, the grace and emotion with which you wrote it just reminded me of the civil war era. Tremendously good writing, dear Bro! Definitely get the GOLD from me.

"here on these field" -- might want to add an "s" to field.

    Luv & hugs, SisBon
