I dont want to talk
it takes engery,
wears me out
Please,
let's just sit and
listen
to the deer
moving through the woods
like ghosts --
stare down
the white pawed fox
slinking out
from the scrub brush
Sit still long enough
and you
will feel life
beyond your own
Today
is a good day,
a quiet day
Take my hand --
we have no place
else to be
Which format works best??

I love this
Helen, the sentiment so eloquently conveyed in this write resonates deeply with me. I just returned from a walk in our river valley with my fiance and the best part of the walk was in silence where we inhaled the springtime beauty of life reborn. Stillness is also a wonderful way for us to re-connect with our inner selves in a world that thrives on external matters.
Often in my yoga classes I notice students who struggle with stillness and are constantly fidgeting. There is an expression that says "those who are the hardest to love, need love the most"; my spin on that is "those that struggle with stillness the most, need it the most.
When you and your beloved can sit or walk in sustained but comfortable silence it speaks volumes about the depth of your connection. Conversely folks that are uncomfortable in meditative silence could learn much from looking at the relationship they have with their inner selves (or not as the case might be).

Henri, You really understood this poem and the inspiration behind it. For me, it's all about the quiet moments when I can just sit and listen to nature, and its made even better when shared with my husband. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment and generous words. Peace my friend. Helen

A beautiful write for serenity. To take the time to look around and notice, is something we don't seem to be able to do often enough.
Very nicely done! ---Mark

Glad to see you writing again, Helen.
My favourite lines ...

You should put these words to music.
Lovely.

Thank you for your kind words Maria. Life has been quite busy lately and it feels so good to write again. I like your idea of setting these words to music and will let you know how it goes. Regards, Helen
