The world around us is a mess,
With unemployed, financial stress;
I can and will endure this strife
For you are here to fill my life.
A humble gift I give you now
Don’t ask me why, or when or how,
But what I’m feeling is so strong
I can’t help thinking we belong.
My heart beats out a new tattoo,
My thoughts are all wrapped up in you,
This humble question, then, is mine:
Girl…will you be my Valentine?
Author notes
I was asked by a work colleague to pen this for his sweetheart. It's always a pleasure as a poet to be asked to write for others.
I hope it fits this contest's criteria.

I think you have already won the best prize; being asked to pen such a delight that I'm sure this will make his honey melt with appreciation. Glad to see that you're like me when it comes to pleasing others. Crafted very nicely. I want to thank you for participating in the 'Valentine's Day for Lovers' contest.

PS: Happy Valentine's Day since it is today
