COOL COOL Change

The sun comes up and the heat beats down
Dries every last thing out on the ground
Not even the birds are making a sound
Maybe it's a heat wave

The cow's gone dry and the hens won't lay
I've fed out the last of my stock of hay
Tomorrow I can maybe snooze all day
In another bloody heat wave

Water in the tank's getting too low
Have to crank up the pump to get some flow
Won't waste it on lawn, there's nothin to show
Burnt by this B........... heat wave.

Down to the shop to buy veges now
My vege garden is near dead somehow
"Hughie" and I  gunna have a big row
Because of this B....... heat wave.

They say there'll soon be a cool change
But I can see nothin this side of the range
Except the odd fox sick with the mange
Bugger this B...... heat wave.

Dog's on the floor, his tongue hangin out
Don't know what he's panting about
He's cooler in here than he is when he 's out
More pain to the B..... heat wave.

Global warming?Climate Change?
All I want is a cool cool change

Thank you once again. I really appreciate your comments. I will, at some time or other put my poetry into lists. This one belongs with the bushfire poems as the heat wave sets up conditions for fires to run wild.

A lovely portrait of the weather Bob. The best of all there is on days like the one you describe is a cold beer, a good dog that comes when you call and a quiet spot to fish. Happy days and cooler nights.

Hi David, many thanks foryou wonderful thoughts. Cold beer, good dog and quiet fishing spot. We are still waiting for the change to come, this afternoon is the best we can expect, so the weather man says.
Fires still going in Victoria aand NSW. Victorian death toll now over 100 and lost homes over 700. A real tragedy. Reports say wild fire caught many out with its speed. 25 kilometrres in 15 minutes, no time to run or drive away. Bodies are being found in burnt out cars, ashes of homes and even on the street in places where small towns have been wiped out.
      Bloody heartbreaking.

Love it Bob, a nice gentle rhythm yet details the harshness of the outback and the challenges you face. sorry to hear about the vege patch

the vege patch is suffering but its still there and some stuff can be harvested. Won't last much longer though. Walking across our lawn is like walking on corn flakes.Crunch every step. Cool change due tonight or tomorrow.

The heat sounds terrible, how long will those temps last...I can't imagine what you must be going through...

It is pretty terrible but we can survive quite well. It is sort of normal, for our climate is one of extremes; 45 plus [celcius ] in summer and minus 9 - 10 in winter. Normally heat waves only last for a week at most , then a cool change gives relief. This one has been longer but the cool change will be here tonight. main problem is rain, we haven't had any for a couple of months now.
Many thanks for your comments and thoughts, much appreciated.

Hi Linda, I'll bet it's no picnic at your place either. You will have had much the same as us. Tiga has vanished already, he has a special cool place and goes there until late afternoon or early evening. Must sleep with his legs crossed, or has a very strong bladder.
You are lucky to have an air-con. Ours vibrates and shakes like an elephant doing an irish jig on a tin tub. It just isn't usable.
We take very good care, do what is necessary until the temp gets to 38, then shut down and rest with large and frequent drinks of water. Not very exciting, but helps us wait out this heat wave successfully.
New babies in the wildlife world tell me a good rain is coming soon. Mother nature doesn't allow irresponsible breeding.

      All the best

      Bob

    I Liked..

I liked the humour in this, Bob.
When we have done all we can do to make a situation better....We may aswell just accept it!

Must never lose one's sense of humour, Lilly. It's 7.30 am, temperature inside the house is 28 celcius, expected top today 50 something. Do what's necessary before 10.30 am and shut down physical activity until 9.00 pm tonight. Such is life. Another hot one tomorrow and then a cool change Monday up to 14 degrees cooler.
Some of your snow would be very welcome right now.
Your commens and thought s are appreciated.

      Bob

Yeah! This was funny but so true. Even here, birds have been dropping dead from the trees. We have put extra water bowls everywhere so all the animals can at least get some fluid in them. Wonderfully written. I think by the end of the week, i was getting very angry and frustrated with the heat. Can't handle it these days. Tomorrow in the high forties. No like one little bit. Try and stay cool, Bob. Loved the write a lot.
