Destroyed Myth

I am your Atlas.
My spine bows under pressure,
the weight of the world
a small obligation in comparison
to your growing desire.

I am your Prometheus—
thief and liberator—
but when I steal the fire
I become your flame,
filling you to the brim.

I am your Andromeche,
concubine to kings,
slave to your whims,
surviving plague to curse
the very things you love.

I am your Pandora.
There is no lock and key;
The box is opened and
ruined, wholly consumed.
Soon…you will be too.

Author notes

Ran into someone I didn't ever want to see again last weekend. It scared the shit out of me when I realized how fucking obsessed he still was, even after three years.

    Nothing like grandeur
    to convey strong feeling.

Though you rip out the flame-as-gift-to-man sacrafice metaphor, instead choosing one from the perspective of a supplicant, bowing.

And there's no hope in your box, as you put it...

    I could interpret that...in a certain sense.

Yes, a dork am I. Is been while.

Dear, dear boy, you make me laugh like a fockin' crazy person. I suppose I could have taken the image of Prometheus another way, but his obsession is lust...and lust is akin to flame. So yer'...

As for the box? I think there's still hope in MY box...just not his.

      So how have you been?

        The boy has a box...?

This one is good, albeit in need of some damn way to have more free time. For homework. Of course homework...

        I'm at ODU now too.

    Ew, Keith? Bleh!

This was great. And so funny, since not too long ago I looked up the Titan myths because James let me borrow Atlas Shrugged. Still haven't gotten beyond thirty pages. Its over a thousand!

Still, he says its worth it. Ever heard of it?

    Lerves!

      What can you do, right?

Yeah, I've heard of Atlas Shrugged. Haven't gotten around to reading it, though it's been on my list for years. Sad, ey?

Love you, too, sissor! Thanks for the commentations and applause.

He needs to go suck rocks until he chokes. Seriously. That person disgusts the hell out of me.

But yes. This poem is lovely, and brilliant. You are oh so very creative, using Greek mythology to express your points and all that.

Eventually, all of the idiots will die.

...Let's not think about how more will come to take their place, 'CAUSE...we'll get a fucking chainsaw and scare 'em away.
