Deliver Me, Lord! (Song)

Verse:

He’s breathing down my neck. I can feel his heat,

running in the freezing rain, stumbling on my feet.

I can’t find my way, fumbling in the dark.

I wish I was beneath the sun, soaring like a lark.

Pre-chorus:

Broken like a poor man, I fell on the way.

Falling down on my knees, I begin to pray,...

Chorus:

Deliver me, Lord, take me home!

I’m the one who brought me here. Now I am alone.

Deliver me, Lord, take me back!

I’m the one who left You. Now I’m under attack.

Verse:

I couldn’t get my way with You. So I went my way.

I went back to the world, where I thought I’d stay.

I came upon a dog, licking up his vomit.

It was then that I knew: I had become it!

Pre-chorus:

I’m the one who brought me here, reaping my own sentence.

Missing Father’s goodness, I’m led to my repentance.

Repeat Chorus

Please tell me what you think

  • Very thought provoking.

From what I read in your bio. I find this to be a very good prayer song for the ones you seek to help. There is much truth to these words for a lot of people. I can picture someone falling on their knees in prayer from your discription of what they were feeling. Every bit of it was very poignant you couldn't have done a better job. It was outstanding.

    Fabulous!

I love the last two lines of the 2nd verse...
"I came upon a dog, licking up his vomit.
It was then that I knew: I had become it!"
    An incredibly moving, poetic song!
I'd love to hear the melody.
    Just fabulous!

I really liked this! It sounds like it would be a great song. I just wish I knew the tune you had running through your head when you wrote this song. It was a beautiful read...I admit, the part about the dog vomit sort of contrasted with the mood of the rest...but I still liked it.

    Prodical...

I have so been here, relating to this song so very much!
I wish it had one more stanza, expressing the willingness of our Father's heart to take us back into His arms and restore us into His kind mercies. But I understand that it is about asking for deliverance and the condition that brought the repentance. I am grateful to read this song today! It reminds me of the past consequences I have had to face and the the pain of those choices to go my own way.
And the goodness of God that leads us to repentance.
    Well written..great song!

      For Desperation's Sake...

...I left it unfinished as you see. I think I wanted to communicate how desperate we are without the Lord.

I also wanted to add that like you're saying.

      Thanks, sis. God blessha!

      Yep, He saves...

...all we need is but to ask. Kinda like Peter drownin' in Galilee.

      "Lord, save me!"

      Me Like Demon Hunter...

...Got four of their songs on my mp3 player.

I was thinking blues rock myself. Kinda like "Ain't Too Proud to Beg".

  • Oh oh!

Feeling like vomit eh? I'm wondering what the music is like! Sounds like it might be a hard hitting sound with a strong drum beat & an intense vocal! Feeling like a dog licking up his vomit, especially someone who turned from Father & The Savior should make one repent! Good going here Bob.
