Turn On The Radio

In Memory of Cora Woodruff

My Mom

Cry not for me, I have not left.
I've merely changed addresses.
My love is here and will always be
in your smile and love for each other.
And if you feel a tear well up,
turn on the radio.
Listen close and you will hear me in the crowd;
Go Cubs, Go Braves and Touchdown Volunteers!
And late at night if you feel alone,
turn on the radio.
I will sing you a sweet, sweet song and sound like
Patsy Cline.
And Unforgettable it will be as we go,
Walking After Midnight.
Cry not for me, I have not left.
Just turn on the radio.

Don't touch that dial!

wow this was an awsome poem. " cry not for me i have not left ive merely changed adresses." this was my favorite line. it really set the mood for the entire poem. it was a very emotional poem. im sure your mom would be proud. keep up the fantastic writing. i look forward to reading more of your work.

  • This was soooooooooo good. Such a beautiful tribute here, im sure you would make her proud. I like the way you put this... "Cry not for me, I have not left.
    I've merely changed addresses"

    ...Oh...
    ...My...
    ...Gosh...

Those lines, the first two, just kinda slapped me in the face with their 'wow'-ness. It's so stunning, the simplicity and imagery you have in this work; and it's even in the viewpoint not of the misser (the one doing the missing), but of the miss-ee! Cora Woodruff was a lucky mother, to have you be able to write such a legacy. It's a very wow piece (yes, I like using 'wow' as an adjective. It's fun.) and it absolutely blew me away from line one. Incredible.
My only question was in the thirteenth line- "An Unforgettable it will be as we go, / Walking After Midnight." Did you mean "AND Unforgettable as we go"? I just couldn't make much sense of that bit.
Your piece is simply stunning. I love it. Thank you for this heartfelt contest entry, and best of luck! God Bless!
