We Are Waiting

We could see
The fire in the night
Its red flames
Streaking across the sky
Stretching its fingers
Through the darkness
Towards us.
Its smoke
Billows into the air
Blocking out the moon and stars.

All We can do was wait
Knowing the heat
Will reach us first
Scalding our skin
Causing our eyes to tear
Spreading pain into every crevice
And then the smoke will come
And it will fill our lungs
Our souls
Washing over us and moving past us.

We will die tonight.
Huddled close together
In the dark of the trees.
Our legs are cramped from constant running
We are lost in a wood
Far removed from a life we once knew.
The fire is coming, closing in on us.

And still,
In this darkness
In this silence
All We can do is wait.

Author notes

New: So, yeah. Another poem I've updated and fixed.

((OLD:So I was driving to see that new movie 'Taken' and as I'm driving down the freeway, in the distance the sun is dropping below the horizon and its gotten down far enough that the sky is dark behind me and only the faint red glow of the sun remains and in my head I hear my muse starting to mutter to me. This is distracting since I'm driving and should be paying attention. So I ignore him. The Movie was good, awesome even. I get home and am about to go to bed when my muse starts to *bunny* at me about how he has this freaking awesome poem and can't wait to tell it to me. I tell him to shut up, ignore him again and got some sleep. This morning, he starts to mutter this poem to me, over and over and throughout the day, I can't concentrate because I'm hearing this poem and seeing that scene, right. I even wrote it down but he didn't stop and here is what he's just said to me:

Muse: Listen to me next time or I'll sing that never-ending song to you for a week until you gnaw off your own ears....

In the end, I've learned never to ignore my muse....E V E R!))

Please tell me what you think
