Red clouds are rising all along our road
They floats serenely everywhere, across fields
And through the trees, like mountain mist
They slowly drift on a quiet gentle breeze
I see this vision coming from every car
That passes by. It's just a fact of living
Free from the city's pace, but a quiet
Country lifestyle is like a life of grace.
Author notes
There are many dirt roads around and the continual pounding of tyres makes all earth into superfine dust that floats in clouds.

Everyone of your poems that I have read paints a vivid picture, and this one is no difference. I like it a lot!! Best of luck in the contest with it.

Thank you once again. I appreciate your reading and commenting very much. Most of all I trust you enjoyed your read.

Well, thanks goodness that your red clouds are created by a passer by. LoL, I live in West Texas and when we see red clouds it is generally accompanied by lots of wind.

I loved the poem, it paints a very vivid picture that leaves me in the middle of it rather than on the outside looking in.
Thanks for your entry and best of luck in the contest. -

Thanks for your comments and thoughts. We, too, have the dust clouds rising with the wind. But the road dust is more regular and consistent in dry summer weather.

Right on the money. red soil and very wide open spaces. Yet it has a charm and attraction all its own. Appreciate your comments and thank you for them.

What kind of soil do you have, and do you farm, or ranch; what animals?

Hi and welcome to my page, In answer to your questions: soil is sandy with fine clay in amongst it, I am retired and rent a house on a cattle grazing property, I have dogs, cats, chickens and moscovy ducks. Cattle are mostly black angus around here as they seem to do well. the climate is one of extremes 45 celcius in summer, plus higher on occasion, and minus 9 in winter. No snow or anything like that just severe frosts. We are about three hours drive from the east coast.
That should give you an idea of where I live In Australia.
your comments are appreciated, and your questions also. Our world is such a small place with the advent of the internet and we are all really neighbors.

Another delightful piece that paints a wonderful picture of the country life style. Alas, the dirt roads are something i wish we still had here. I can see how much you appreciate this wonderful land through all your fantastic description of places and people. I love how you sometimes allow the frustration to come out in your work...how you let your feelings dictate the reasons behind your thoughts. It is definately needed in some pieces. This one though, ran smoothly and with thought. Brilliant.

Beautiful images here, Bob and so true!
Im lucky enough to live by the coast, away from all the mayhem, and pollution.
A truly lovely write.

Many thanks Lilly for your comments and thoughts. Heat wave conditions have been with us since Xmas but relief is on the way. Cool change Monday. Dust is a part of living and in times like these everything is coated with it. There is no escape. It does have its benefits though, our home is never locked, we have access to most services and we have a lovely river only 500 yards across the paddock.

Ah, you paint the scenery with movement with a lyrical look-see at this arid state of affairs where the air and everything all around is crowned with something akin to earth rust-red. Perhaps " Red clouds are rising all along our road, they float serenely everywhere" ( As clouds is plural ) As ever, not nitpicking, just rolling a thought your way Bob, kick it to the kerb if you want it to keep rolling lol. I liked the ambience you portray of the quiet country grace away from the city's pace, it ends the poem on a sigh.

Many thanks Yvette, I will look at your sugestions as you as usually a great help to me.
Our summer came with a vengeance just before Xmas day and we have had no relief since then. Daytime temperatures have been in the high 40's celcius every day, with Saturday and Sunday forecast to be extremely hot, with a change coming Monday. No rain at all.
The dust is like a mist over everything, even the leaves on the trees have a film of dust on them. Funnily enough it's sort of normal. very hard to take though. I don't think I would change our quiet lifestyle for an airconditioned flat in the big city. The weather will change.

Another gem. Great work, poet!

Hi John, we are still in this bloody heat wave and dust is the norm. Even the leaves on the trees are coated with it. Appreciate your commenting my friend, many thanks.

the serenity of rural living... and the harshness of the landscape all woven together wonderfully... must be a hassle keeping the machinery working, all that rust, oops dust
cheers mate.

Rural living has it's drawbacks, and it's advantages. Right now there is no rust as there is no moisture, but the dust is like talcum powder and filters inside every house. No machinery moves either, not rust but danger of fires from hot exhaust systems and dry grass. Right this minute I would swap it all for a cool spot, even in an airconditioned city flat. Thanks for commenting mate, much appreciated.
