No Such Thing as a Free Lunch.

What bright joy to look and see
That magic word on my grocery:
"Forty percent, or even ten, is yours and free!"

What will I do with the extra tea
Or cornflakes, porridge or Swiss muesli?
Eat more each meal and feel
So bloated only senna pods will steal
Away that awful tone.
Now I groan and moan
For duodenum quite upset
Yet doctor kind I have not met
To gently understand the discomfit
Of their roiling and railing
At my greedy, tainted failing.
"Buy one and get one free,"

It starts again, so I must see
How to assuage my precocity.
With only ONE cup of minty tea.

    Pretty good for you.....

    .....Ducky Old Lad.
Innovative and well-written, with good rhyme and rhythm.
If I were being pedantic (would you expect any less?), I would put "to" in the penultimate line.
    R.

    • Cos I reckon you is as sharp as an old tin tack I have placed a "to" in the last but one line. What the rhubarb does penultimate mean - is it a solid gold Parker fountain pen?

        Dear Bill Platypus,
"Penultimate" is a particularly strong and exceptionally well made animal enclosure.

So true...! I don't actually eat more if I buy more, but we often get fed up with it, or don't get to it before it goes out of date... I wish supermarkets were more honest, and if food or something is cheap because it's in season or whatever, let us have it more cheaply, rather than try to sell more of it by giving stuff away free... and if you don't want the extra one, you are buying at inflated prices. Pah! And ha! for the laugh...

You are right. Saving money can be stressful. Better to go out for meals but then you might end up with a doggy bag, which would have to be consumed!

    Enjoyed this write.
