Path to the Sky

Heavenly sky,
As I think of you.
The steps are the path,
The path you walked.
Eyes filling with water,
I know you are in a better place.
Voices are heard in the back of my mind,
Memories shared between us.
Let me so love,
Let me so cry,
Let me so grieve.

Years have passed.
Yet I still think of you.
A sad day,
Where you were met by God,
A devoted dog like you,
Gone, just like that.
It was very peaceful,
Eternal pain exiting the body,
Now filled with warmth, love and joy.

God picked you up for he knew,
He knew you were hurting.
So he reached out his hands,
Left you from your suffering...
Giving all you had to this world.

Remember to smile,
That is what gets us through each day.
The love from our loved ones is strong,
Look up to the sky because someone is always watching.

Anyone who has ever known the unconditional love a faithful dog knows they have lost a companion when that animal passes on. I too have experienced this loss and it still touches me deeply when I think of my dog that I had for 17 years.

    Keep writing.

I think both your poems about Tasha a really beautiful. I loved my dog too and was able to talk to her as she drifted away into the world of spirit. It's over 10 years ago now, but I still think of her every day and talk to her too. I love your poems and hope to be able to write something for your birthday.

very touching and 5 star write

What a lovely poem to your pet companion , and how fitting the pic is . If i am not mistaken it is the one that portrays the rainbowbridge they say our pets cross as they leave this world behind . My heart goes out to you . I am an animal lover myself , have 2 cats , 1 dog and 1 McCaw parrot . My dog ( a Siberian Husky ) is getting up in age , he is moving a bit slower because of arthritis and I dread the day when his time on this earth is up . Hopefully we will be granted a few more good years with him . He is still in great spirits and his pain is under control . But he is alrady past the age that the experts predict for his breed . Anyway , I know your dog will always be a part of you , and now you must imagine him romping around accross that rainbowbridge playing with all kinds of other once very loved pets , and seeing his world in colors . That is another thing they say....accross that bridge our pets can finally see colors , here on this earth they claim that they only see black and white ,

    Reenie

Aww, this is so heartfelt and sad. I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your pup. I have a dog, ( well, she's more of my brother's dog, but anyways) and she's part of the family to us. So are my horses, Levi and Spoke, my donkey, our cat and even our goats. I know how horrible it is to lose your pets. I wrote a poem about my first horse when he died of colic, but it wasn't nearly as good as this. I hope you keep writing, in happier circumstances, Muchas Amor, Mandy

At first I thought you were talking about someone you knew and loved who had finally succumbed to cancer and passed on. The one little line "...a devoted dog like you..." threw me. I had to read it twice. But in many families a dog is a member of the family and not just a pet. This is very sweet and poignant. Only one thing -- "...Years have past..." I think you mean Years have PASSED. Past is time and tense, passed is gone. I had to read it twice to understand what you mean. It was a bit of a jolt. But otherwise, the poem flows well and is sweet and sad and hopeful.

    Excellent

Nelak -Wow, this totally suprised me. Beautiful write. The picture is excellent. It seemed like you picked the picture and wrote from how you perceived it. It is very sad.
"God picked you up for he knew,
    He knew you were hurting.
So he reached out his hands,
    Left you from your suffering…
Giving all you had to this word."
I liked that, it has so much meaning. Well deserved. Good luck in the contest, this is a winner.

    Take care,

Nelak, I can't begin to tell you how this timely poem, has touched me, a beloved dog of my adult son was suddenly killed by a car last night, Brownie was his best friend, and companion for 11 years, and beloved by all in this family. I stood vigil as my two adult sons broke through the frozen ground to bury her broken body, 'twas a day of horrible saddness, as a grown man cried, when he laid his faithful dog into the ground with her ball, and a rose. I had written a poem for a contest ("They say that Eyes are the window of the soul") about Brownie's picture, hauntingly put on previously by my son's wife, my words were of a happy live dog, written just hours before this tragic event. Was it prophetic, was it premonition, or God's warning? To read this wonderful poem of yours on this day is, oh, so bitter sweet... To see Brownie, and read her life story there in my dog poem. What is not seen is our grief today. Di.. Thanks for connecting to me, and I hope you win

This is beautiful!! You do seem to undertand animals so well. I know how you feel...for in 1998, I lost my best friend Toby. He was a terrier mix and my best friend for many years....but he came to me in a dream saying.....I am in Heaven. He watches out for me all the time. ~Bud~
