Statue of Liberty National Monument
Emma Lazarus’ Famous Poem
A poem by Emma Lazarus is graven on a tablet
within the pedestal on which the statue stands.
The New Colossus
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Poem is on the base pedestal of the Statue of Liberty.

Ok I was wondering why the poem seemed so short, and then I saw the list and the first one ' Bare Bones Poetry ' it sort of messed with the flow, perhaps you could put that in the author note...
But I do agree with your sentiments...the world needs to reunite and be stronger...just a 'have a nice day ' or 'nice to see you ' with genuine feeling behind it makes someones day better. Skin color is just color...I wonder why we let it affect us so. Sad really. I wonder what people coming over to this country now view it? Do they really believe it's the land of opportunity? If it was as easy as it was then to now?

Excellent
Who teaches their young to dislike color for the child loves all untill they are taught differently .I wish one day we could all work together .But it seems the only time we show such kindness is when there is a disaster and we see humanity at its best .Imagine what we could accomplish if we were as careing the year around

Very good write. Nice and simple, to the point and direct. If everyone could/would let go of prejudice, the world would be a much better place. Thank you for sharing this piece. Good job.

I cannot possibly agree with you more. I dont know which I find worse - Out and out racists who dont know better, or those who suffer from the selective form of racism. Very good job.

Yet another great write from you! I had no idea who Emma Lazarus was after reviewing the entire page, so I went and did a look up on her...lol. A great piece by both you and her!
Thanks for the share of thought and knowledge!

Thanks for your comment, and compliments. I do appreciate them. I had to memorize "The New Colossus", either in a high school or college English course many years ago.

Yeah. Kinda skinny ain't she. Best flesh her out some. You need lots of strength to hold up that torch girl.
America long ago forgot the last lines of Emma Lazarus’ poem. But then, there is no statue of Liberty on the border with Mexico, is there? -
-
Thanks for your comment. The Eiffel Tower is holding her up. No, there isn't one on the border with Mexico, but there ought to be.

I was really hoping you would have fleshed this out a little. I've seen longer haikus! Well, OK, that was a... errrrr.... fib, but DUDE! C'mon! Lady Liberty here... spend some time, anoint her in praise! I'm wondering if Desire read the Emma Lazarus bit or your poem. She sees energy?!
After all the "Superb Plus"es you've given me I had hoped to return the favor, but sorry, this is just a little too scant to be taken (very) seriously.
I'm sorry dude, maybe I'm too tired to be commenting tonight... I'll make this my last comment tonight and I'll post a feature which you can shoot to pieces as well!
G'nite... I'll give'r another go in the mornin'.

I think she read both. However, I like your comment. As I've said before, when I write in the Bare Bones Poetry style, I leave it up to the reader, through there own life experiences, to fill in the "special effects". Also, did you click on the external links which I provided? Doing so may answer your question.Google "Bare Bones Poetry" for more information on this style of writing.
