Superb Growth Opportunity

Some say that opposites attract,
bring compliments of strengths we lack;
I’ve found this, in degree, is true,
but vital “sames” knit one from two:

If to intelligence you’d cleave,
this trait you also must achieve;
as virtue loveth all that’s pure,
so patience, twinned, will long endure.

Integrity embraceth truth,
deceit will wound like serpent’s tooth;
compassionate is mercy’s claim
on those whose habits bear her name!

Emotion’s tide that swells today
will ebb; then attitudes display!
When anger rises, bite your tongue,
the uncast barb’s with ease undone!

To do one’s best when it’s a grind,
hold loyal, trustworthy and kind ~
our choice is born anew each hour,
to nurture love or starve it sour.

With others, give your spouse due praise,
his little faults withhold from gaze.
Each day’s a chance to prove anew
your mate’s best choice of all was you!

And through life’s storms and bitter surge
together faced, the twain emerge
as from a chrysalis, transformed:
one heart on two bright wings is borne!

    Great rhythm, rhyme, and much wisdom in this write. Some differences may prove advantageous, but not any of these virtues or traits. I would add humor.

    Some good advice ...

    Your poem is well-written and well-shared! I so enjoyed some of your choice lines as well.

    "but vital “sames” knit one from two:"

    "With others, give your spouse due praise,
    his little faults withhold from gaze."
    (so important to the others as well for it makes one uncomfortable to hear it)

    I also believe that much of this applys to anyone that I would call my friend ... for if not then I would call them an acquaintance.

    Very nicely shared poet! jy
