When I

When I lose my rhythm and song,
When I fail to pull along,
When my breaths don't rise or fall,
When all my dreams appear too tall.
When you've graded me A or B,
Or C or D or miserable E,
I'll still be me, you can't deny,
I'll still have eyes that are dry.

When my heart slows down, so faint,
When I've removed all the paint,
So you can see me as I am
Will you squirm and call it a scam?
Honesty is mine, I've always believed,
but this left me alone, severely deceived,
For you though, I'll be just me.
to see if mine you'll still be.

I could always put on a face,
but now I'm tired, it's a disgrace.
Before I die, I need to show
you my own, personal rainbow.
Can't assure you that it'd be right,
but it won't be faint, neither light.
My fluid thoughts won't be fluid anymore,
Will you still see me as you saw me before?

This is a beautiful piece, though the venting and anger seems to be lacking here. You’ve also gone way over the allotted 100 words for this contest. Thanks so much for taking the time to enter and for writing for me. It’s an honor to read your work!

  • yes, amazing!

I thoroughly enjoyed this, pictured it being read out loud. I think it would shine. Awesome work, thanks for the very nice comment on mine

wow, this was an amazing write. As i read each line i felt the sorrow in your words. And as i read it to the end it made me think, it made me think about my own life and how people will see me when my life is over when they see everything for what it is instead of what i chose to show them. very well done. these lines are my favorite:
"Before I die, I need to show
    you my own, personal rainbow.
Can't assure you that it'd be right,
but it won't be faint, neither light.
My fluid thoughts won't be fluid anymore,
Will you still see me as you saw me before?"
