M1 Garand

I always loved that "ping" noise
after that sound there were
eight dead fascists
more will fall after the next clip

In a few years
it'll kill a commie or three.

Please tell me what you think

Ha. I like the first and last lines of the first stanza.

This reminds me of some guy's quote "You can go a long way with a smile. You can go a long way with a smile and a gun."

And I will stand beside you as we waste the commies and fucking socialists!

I like the simplicity of this, and the fact that it left me smiling. As simple as it is though, it also begs the question...is this poem about your hate for communists, or a testament to the destructive nature of shooting games.

It's funny that you mentioned shooting games because this was slightly influenced by WWII games like Call of Duty and Medal of Honor. After watching all those WWII movies and playing those games I became very fond of the M1 Garand rifle. I've always wanted to shoot one. After it runs out of ammo it makes a ping noise and you have to reload. The M1 first went into action in WWII and was the first semi-automatic rifle widely used by US troops. It probably made the war much easier to win.

It carried eight rounds (hence eight dead fascists). And it saw action again in the Korean War which was pretty much a proxy war against the Communists. It killed a lot of commies. I think it even killed a few more in Vietnam before the M16 took over.

I guess this poem was really just a dark humorous look at the career of the M1 Garand in history. Thanks for commenting.
