The Child That Should Have Been

So happy to know you were on your way.
Never expecting that you weren't meant to stay.
I wonder if you were a boy or girl.
It's sad to think you'll never see this world.
I often think of how our lives would be,
If things were different and you were here with me.
I think of the firsts we missed.
Your first steps, word, smile and kiss.
I never got to hold you or even look into your eyes.
The only thing I got was the question....Why?

Please tell me what you think

    So sad

Very nice, but so sad we never know what the future here holds for us but I believe babies go to be with their Jesus. Lovely poem and

    truly so sad.

    Blessings

The child that should have been I was very deeply moved and I really cry ed as I write I feel the hurt of someone who is hurting deeply It was a poem that you can never forget keep writing your young and have a future use your poetry as a tool to comfort and tell others there not alone .You have great potential

  • awe I agree 10,000% with this,
    abortion is wrong.
I'm really glad I read this.
it's so amazing! well done, keep writing, you're amazing

  • Well done

Very moving poem. It takes a lot to put this kind of emotion into words. I lost a son because the mother chose not to take care of herself and the fetus. That was over 25yrs ago, and I still have not been able to set to poetry or song. I love the lines I think of the firsts we missed.

That's so sad. I'm sorry you had to go through that. i know that had to be very difficult. Thankyou for your comment and for sharing something so personal with me.

  • I don't comment on alot of things... but I had to for this. Aborton is cruel!!! And this poem is a good example for how sad it can be too. You keep up the good work... loved it

so true, I wrote a poem similiar to that, but different I need to find it. the best line is one that says if things were different and you were here with me. instead of {things) you could say (times)

Expressed as only a mother who had suffered the loss of an unborn child could express it.
