Innocent, Yet Deadly

She lies there in bed, looking so peaceful
yet just a few hours ago we were fighting
it was just another silly argument we had
like the many others that had proceeded.

Time for work; how I wish she'd wake up,
I hate leaving her without saying I'm sorry
it would have to wait till I returned home;
I'd surprise her with her favorite flowers.

Upon arriving home, before I'd even entered
I felt something was somehow terribly wrong.
The house seemed cold and lonely; empty
with no aroma of dinner permeating the air.

Cautiously I entered; could she still be asleep?
It wasn't normal, but she had been tired lately,
entering quietly; hands full of flowers for her
he started across the room; a knot in his gut.

There on the desk lay a letter with his name!
He placed the flowers down gently, choking
afraid to read the letter;  an ache in his heart.
As he slowly opened it, her golden band fell!

Oh. This is quite some poem that you have written in here. It really sounds very sad and without hope. I know you wrote it with an open end but it seemed to me that you were leading up to something sad with the things you focused on and the empty quiet room. Lestways, that's how it sounded to me. I thought you did a good job of expressing yourself here.
