End of a Song

End of a Song

Walking along a country road
I found a guitar string.
Bending down to pick it up I started wondering.
How many songs has it played?
Was it soothing to the ear?

Perhaps a simple solo for someone held so dear.

Was it a member of a famous band?
Or simple comfort held in aging hands

Were words its companion?
Singing joyously off key
Maybe children danced around oh so gleefully

Aglow in the moonlight a lovely serenade
To win the hand of lady fair, sweet sounds did it play?

Will I bring such joy, as this string must have done?
Only to be discarded when my song is sung?

Very good. I enjoyed the tender thoughts in this and you expressed those thoughts very skillfully.
