Daddy

Dear Daddy
do you remember me?
This lost little girl
with too many big thoughts.
This lost little girl
that's trying to remember how to dream.

It's not your fault
that I am who I am.
This lost little girl
that misses you too much.
This lost little girl
who is running out of time
to figure things out.

I want to see the world.
I want to get to know you better.
I want this little girl inside
to grow up to be
everything you dreamed she could be.

I lost something important
somewhere along the way.
The little girl's smile
faded.
Her laughter
disappeared.
Her rosy cheeks
became pale
and her bright blue eyes
lost their sparkle.

And yet, despite all that,
she was still beautiful
as most little girls
tend to be.

Even as she lost her way
something remained.
A certainty.
A fragile confidence.
It certainly could not take the place
of lost innocence.
But Daddy
she still loves you.
She always will.
