Safety seems only a word,
while you are away from arms reach.
But remember, I'm smiling in memory of you.
So feel no fear, just smile back.
Parental seperation causes you confusion,
this stepmother understands your place.
But remember I am here, as always.
A phone call away, let your heart cry my name.
Safety only seems to be a moral neglected,
but fear not my dear child.
I am yours to keep forever,
only a phone call away is your salvation.
I'm missing your giggle and smile,
so turn around young one.
I'm right here smiling,
No fear evident, it's okay to smile back.
I know your place is confusing,
frightening as the boogey-man's eyes.
But remember, I'm the one you can run too.
So smile for me, dear child.
Safety is not what you know,
it is what you are learning.
But fear not,
I'm only a phone call away.
Author notes
This is written in regards to my (non legally) stepson, K.J.
when he's with his mother, he was used to being afraid because of her drinking.
But he knows to call me if he ever wants to come home.
Im only...(a phone call) ...away.

If I were not so exhausted right now ...
I could have written you dedication song. For this how we inspire each other. Thank you for your comment on my work. I appreciate it sincerely.

This poem really hits home for me. It is so beautiful and so true in the sense that often times the people who care for us like a parent should are in reality not our blood, or even legal parents. Well done.
