I want to see us evolve.
I mean the whole human race.
I wanna see us reject this pain
start using the unused part of our brain.
Debates rage about how much we use
Is it 10 percent or 20 ? Or do we use it all
just at different times??
Like our SUV’s , our LCD TV’s ?
How are acts so vicious
brought with us through centuries
not recognized for what they are?
Our worst nature , our worst gesture.
There are reptiles and snakes adapting
to living on land ,
or trees ,
depending on their needs.
We can’t seem to get beyond
Chaos and catastrophe
Since 1095 and before
We’ve fought and waged war

still not thinking." Martin Heidegger ??

- haha i would like to see that too, beautiful and powerful write. -
Powerful
I know what you mean. This has been a recurrent them in my writing forever. We advance in so many ways but seem stuck in the mud spiritually. The UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championships) is only the latest in a series of grand demonstrations that we're no better than the bloodthirsty goons watching gladiators decapitate each other in ancient Rome.
I think these acts are recognized by most as repugnant evidence of our lowest nature, but the minority get all the attention, especially now with cell phone videos, viral videos, etc., etc. The internet is loaded with videos of people dying for one reason or another, which means someone was standing there filming them in their final moments rather than trying to help them, or at least holding their hand so they could be comforted a little and see a kind face before they leave this earth. If I ever see anyone filming someone dying, they will join them, with their recording device stuffed down their throat. As always, the good people have to do something about the bad, who are always threatening to overrun the planet, even if it means thinning out the herd. It's a shame, but that's necessary now and then.
Sorry about the rant. Great write. Hope you're doing well, my friend.
Here's something along these same lines -

Brilliant, and truthful. And i love the quote, i chose it too!! It truly is shocking how we are not evolving in this time, if anything, we are devloping backwards in terms of humane approaches etc. My best stanza is the first. Loving the impact of it. Weldone...similar take on the prompt as mine.
Good luck in the contest!!

Now this is what I was looking for from this quote! What the hell are we as a species doing to ourselves??? War, forced famine, ecological destruction, making it easier and easier to become dumber and number...and for what? It vexes a thinking person! In making life easier, we are inevitably making it more difficult. Why doesn't anyone do anything about it? Quite the ponderable indeed. Best of luck to you! -
Great take on the prompt. I think you nailed this one, your thoughts read clear and really had me shaking my head as i read it. Awesome job! GL to you in your contest

ahh Heidigger... I remember some ideas of his on learning, and epiphany...but what you say here is the challenge in so many ways... excellence, doing things that we simply need to improve life, more abundant...wonderful thoughtful poetry here...PK
