I both love and despise the nights like this,
cadaverous winds cut fiercely into my skin.
Under a sky as thick black and choking as oil,
while below I hear humanity’s cacophonous din.
Pitiful light beams from the futile shine of stars,
each one fading like a dead promise or withered dream.
People fucking with sunken eyes and leaden hearts,
It’s not the climax for which they want to scream.
I abhor this world with passionate disdain,
why can’t it just end like everything else?
I reach for another drink to ease the strain,
a comically pointless action since it never helps.
Perhaps there’s another vice to quell the pain,
I think of keen and thirsting razors and just laugh.
It’s not enough to tear through flesh, viscera and vain,
for the peace I want I’d have to tear my entire soul in half.
The noise of the world howls like a ravenous bitch,
wincing with effort to blot it out, away I turn.
Oh how I wish the sky really were tangible pitch,
I could just strike a match and let the galaxy burn.

"People fucking with sunken eyes and leaden hearts," Best line in your poem. I have met and seen people like the ones you have described. Great imagery. The fourth stanza takes away from the integrity of the poem by bringing in the self descructive imagery. It sounds childish. I truly think you have a great poem her. The last two lines are awesome too. Pen on!
