There was once a great light in this home
Now the beam is but a naked bulb
Swinging in the empty room
As naked as the discovered truth
Censorship and ignorance
Go hand in hand
Ignorance has raised me
Now enlightenment will take me
Spring and summer
So beautiful and so dark
A lover taken
A friend lost
Those gone from this place
Will not be forgotten
With their guidance
This light will shine bright once again

This poem is very greatly inspired by the musical "Spring Awakening", specifically the songs "Mama Who Bore Me", "All That's Known", and "Those You've Known". Spring Awakening is my favorite Broadway musical, ever. It sends a great message about censorship that the world still needs to learn, even 100 years after this play was written.
